Special Services
Special Services are the list of SyncLinux Services and features of this website that don't quite fit into any one specific category. Sticking them here allows us to keep our site from becoming bloated and confusing.
eCommerce
One of our missions is the liberation of individuals and small businesses to be able to do business and make money without resorting to unethical and otherwise really annoying methods. Lets face it -- NO ONE likes looking at pages that are utterly plastered with ads, having popups flying everywhere, getting the crap spammed out of them and other similar things that just provide you with the urge to bash your computer to pieces by way of the nearest available sledge hammer.
The difference between Information Syndication Services and Solicitors, is that Solicitors are ASSHOLES. You WANT the newest and up to date info on those cool toys and awesome services! You just don't want them forced down your throat and up your ass!
There are discreet and efficent means of receiving and providing this sort of information. One of our goals will be to provide those to you by integrating them into SyncLinux. Whether you want to receive information, shoot it out there or both -- we're going to help you be able to do that without feeling the need to shoot anyone or for anyone feeling the desire to cut your heart out with a spoon.
DEFAULT BOOKMARKS
One service we're going to have is the ability for both Non-Profit and Pay Sites to have themselves listed in the Default Firefox Bookmarks for SyncLinux. This way, all of that stuff is organized into sub-folders under one main folder within the default bookmarks. It's a very discreet method.
We will require however that your site or service is not loaded to the hilt with spyware nor do you practice unethical spamming or anything of that nature. Sure, Linux can't contract spyware. But that doesn't mean we support or condone spyware sites. We think they suck.
Non-Profit Sites will be listed free of charge. Pay sites require giving us a yearly tax deductable donation. It can be any amount you want, but please don't insult our intelligence. We know a pay site can afford more than a dollar and 50 cents. Consult your tax person and see what they'd suggest.
Some pay sites may be elligable for a free listing under special circumstances. It is completely at our disgression as to what does and does not qualify as a special cistumstance.
BBSX & BCX
The BBS XChange and BBS Crawler Exchange are Banner Services geared towards QUALITY content. As long as you meet the requirements of their terms of service you can get yourself listed on there. Both are rather picky and both absolutely hate spammers and spyware sites.
Both exchanges are included by default in the Synchronet Web Interface.

OS COMMERCE
osCommerce Online Merchant is an Open Source online shop e-commerce solution that is available for free under the GNU General Public License. It features a rich set of out-of-the-box online shopping cart functionality that allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with no costs, fees, or limitations involved.

With over 8 years of operation, osCommerce has built a showcase of over 12,700 online shops that have been voluntarily added to the live shops section, and powers many thousands of more online shops worldwide.
OS Commerce will be included by default within SyncLinux under the Apache Web Server.
GOOGLE ADS
There is a correct way and a stupid way to impliment Google Ads. For some dumbfounding reason, most people seem to really enjoy doing it the stupid way which has given Google Ads an unnessesary bad reputation.
The correct way will be a default in the Synchweb Interface. Google Ads can be a great way to provide context-appropriate links and make a few extra bucks in the proccess. It's just that most sites that carry Google Ads like to jam an entire bag of sugar down your throat rather than offering you a piece of cake.
The discreetness levels also include buttons for some of your favorite applications and services as well as text-only advertising. However a lot of sites seem to like to plaster text content boxes and graphical banners all over the place. So, it's all about the presentation.
PAGE IMPRESSIONS
Some of the special services on this page are going to be ones that we don't run and can not integrate -- but instead -- we simply suggest / refer because we happen to like them. This is one of those services.
Page Impression Advertising is when you get paid per "view" or "impression" of the advertisement and NOT per "click". These also tend to have advanced options of being able to allow / disallow specific ads (where as things like Google Ads don't provide you with that -- or at least -- not yet).
The Catch22 with these is what you get paid tends to depend on how much traffic your website has as well as monthly hits requirements. Though the requirements aren't unreasonable and the payout might not be much -- if you happen to qualify, this can be a fun and efficent means of making a few extra bucks.
Below is a listing of "Pay Per Impression" Services.
24/7 Real Media
Large advertising network paying around $0.15 CPM (here and below indicated efective CPM) for skyscrapers and banners. Applies $0.10 default fee (publishers have to pay when the network fails to sell advertising for your site) to sites that give them a large % of international inventory.
The banners are tied to popups. Requires minimum of 500K impressions/month.
Pays an average CPM of $0.15 for above the sroll banner, $0.35 for banner / uncapped pop-under combination, and $0.75 CPM on popups. CPM rates fluctuate daily based on campaigns in rotation.

A mix of pay per click and pay per impression models. Poor reporting - confuses CPA and CPM ads so the CPM stats are meaningless. Usually CPM no more than $0.10.
Minimum payout is $25.00.
Your site must receive over 250,000 impressions per month and use English or Spanish as the primary language. One positive thing, that Advertising.com supports variety of below the scroll ads.
One of the best CPM networks. Rates are based on the level of targeting and range from $0.15 to $0.35 CPM for top 468x60 banner. They also have combined banner/pop-up campaigns that pay much more. You have option to send default impressions to another CPM or CPC network.
Burst supports banners, buttons, cubes, skyscrapers, and optional popup and popunder campaigns. But according to their strange logic you are not allowed to run any of their other ad sizes unless you're also running the top 468x60 banner at the same time.
Due to unsold inventory, currently only small number of sites are accepted. Does not accept search engines and directories, and prefers original written content. Payment is issued every quarter once commissions reach $50.
Recommended.
About 5,000 of CPA, CPL, CPC and CPM offers. Many of their advertisers are guys with several bucks, so be wary.
Checks are paid monthly with no minimum.
5% commission on the earnings of every webmaster you refer, plus $10.00 for each referred advertiser.
Rates vary from $0.15 to $0.50 per 1000 ads with "an acceptable click-through rate".
Currently pays $.41/cpm for banners with one pop up and $.15/cpm for banners without any pop ups.
Count just unique visitors from US.
7% for 1st level referred webmasters, 2% - 2nd level, 1% - 3-6 levels. Minimum payout is $30.00.
Your website needs to have at least 5000 visitors per month. Also you can make money only as an affiliate.
Top quality network paying 65% of the revenues they receive from their advertisers. Huge $2 CPM for popunders (only 1 per 12 hours) and about $0.25 for skyscrapers and banners.
Does not sell site specific advertising, so for some "serious" sites this network is not a good choice. As a webmaster, you can choose which ad campaigns run on your site. Ads can not be placed in pages with discussion boards or chat rooms.
The program is two-tier, allowing you to refer other webmasters to the program and earn a 5% commission on whatever revenues they generate.
Payment is issued 21 days after the month once commissions reach $50.
Sites must be in English and receive minimum 3000 impressions per month.
Recommended.

Default ads for traffic that is not from North America. You have no option to reject their pop-ups. Majority of sites are eligible.
Available redirection service. Non-exclusive contract. Supports only 468x60 banners. Minimum payment is $50. Pays Net40.
Despite the serious problems in the past, now this advertising network is quite a good option for the small sites without CPA potential.
Brokers the ad inventory for over 200 entertainment sites. Serves a variety of ad types and formats, from standard banners, to pop-ups, pop-unders, and beyond the banner DHTML ads.
Publishers earn 50% of all revenues that GN collects. You get paid Net 90. You need at least 500,000 monthly impressions to apply.
Low paying ad network supporting many ad formats, including 300x250 layer ads, 728x90 banner ads, pop-unders, sponsored search results, etc.
Payments are made on a Net-90 basis, with a $50 minimum. You must receive at least 20,000 unique visits a month.
Major advertising network paying about $0.40 CPM for 468X60 banners. But you must pay a serving fee of $0.15 per 1000 default ads. So keep an eye on reports or you'll end owing them.
The banners are tied to popups.
Your site must receive minimum 500 000 impressions a month.
Solid CPM based network offering very attractive rates (for many sites effective CPM of 468x60 banner is over $1).
The only problem with them is their extreme selectivity. Rates are based on the level of targeting. The publisher has an option to set the rate at which he wants site specific advertising to be sold. Tribalfusion takes a 45% commission on ad sales.
They support 468x60 banners, 728x90 banners, popups, popunders, and skyscrapers. Pop-ups are limited to one view per person every 12 hours.
Minimum payment $50.00. Pays Net 45. Minimum 1000 unique users per day.
Recommended.
Long-standing, reliable adnetwork offering variety of CPC and CPM ads. Because of over 50% default rate and low CPM rates, ValueClick is not recommended as your primary advertiser.

Synchronet Matchmaker
Now this one has some uber serious potential but there are a few modifications that we need to make to it. Of course, a free and open source dating service is not only unheard of, but a very welcome change of pace in light of Match dot Cum and eWhores that make you spend a lot of money to jump through a lot of hoops. It's pretty rediculous.
Not to mention, this sucker is networked to every Synchronet BBS in existance. So you've got countless amounts of sites to reach the same people on the same service, also increasing visibility -- which is important for a dating service.
Before we get into the other pro's, we need to mention the one and only con that we need to eliminate. The interface, seeing as it dates back to the early 1990's, is purely text based. Though interfaces such as Telnet and SSH are easy to use -- it makes things like profile pictures and extended profile information a total hassle. How much of a hassle? Thousands of systems connected to a dating service that nobody uses. Does't that seem like such a waste?
One of our missions will be to impliment a web interface into this sucker! Then, we can give the main stream a run for it's money! Without you needing to spend any of yours! :-)
The Synchronet Match Maker uses Myers Briggs personality Testing to calculate your personality type! This implimentation is scarily accurate! When I (Time Warrior) answered the questions, it told me "about myself" and came within 90% accuracy! I was pretty amazed.
With this, you get the accuracy the main stream claims they have but without needing to be damned to an eternal hell of being bombarded by never-ending questions!
A Myers Briggs personality test works out your personality type. It is the most widely used psychological instrument for career planning, career counseling, employee training, team building efforts and personal development. More than 2 million people pass through this, every year, for screening purposes. The government and private organizations have generally made it a permanent feature of their career assessment sessions.
Myers Briggs personality test assess your preferred options to handle a given situation. The results depict what patterns of action you prefer when given a free choice.
The concept is normally illustrated with an analogy. You can write your resume with either of your hands. But you shall prefer the hand which is more convenient to you. Likewise, you may behave in a particular fashion under precise working conditions. However, when you are given a free choice, you shall always prefer to behave what you feel more comfortable with.
The philosophers and psychologists have been articulating since centuries that human personalities don’t differ on temporary bases. However, Swiss psychologist Carl Jung was the first one to theorize that you don’t behave randomly but instead follow certain identifiable patterns. These patterns are categorized as personality types.
This theory didn’t get practical importance until Katherine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers used it to differentiate types around them. They had a noble cause; to help people to live a peaceful, harmonious and happier life. Since then the concept has been getting refined and the usability of the Meyers Briggs personality test has been growing.
There are four mutually exclusive pairs of Myers Briggs personality types.
1- Extroverts vs. Introverts (E1)
2- Sensing vs. Intuitive (SN)
3- Thinking vs. Feeling (TF)
4- Judgers vs. Perceivers (JP)
For more information on Myers Briggs Personality Testing, go here.
Now why eWhores and Match dot Cum couldn't use this efficent a system, is beyond our ability to understand. We can only chalk it up to an educated guess of incompotance :-)
